Code of Conduct for Players

  • Enjoy the Game: Play for enjoyment and become part of the rugby family.
  • Respect the Game: Adhere to the laws of rugby and respect the game.
  • Accept Referee Decisions: Let your captain or coach address any questions with the referee.
  • Maintain Control: Play with control and do not lose your temper.
  • Commit Fully: Always do your best and stay committed to the game, your team, and your club.
  • Respect Opponents: Treat all players as you would like to be treated; do not bully or take advantage of others.
  • Cooperate: Work with your coach, teammates, and club members.
  • Focus on Goals: Remember the goals are to have fun, improve skills, and feel good.
  • Show Gratitude: Thank your opponents and the referee after the match.
  • Tackle Fairly: Tackle hard but fairly, without intending to harm.
  • Win and Lose Gracefully: Win with humility and lose with dignity.
  • Participate Regularly: Attend training regularly, listen to your coach, and help your team.
  • Value Team Members: Understand that every team member is important.
  • Represent Well: Remember you represent your team, club, family, and the Game of Rugby.

Code of Conduct for Spectators and Parents

  • Respect Young Players: Remember, they play for their enjoyment.
  • Model Good Behavior: Avoid profane language and harassment of referees, players, or coaches.
  • Applaud All: Acknowledge good play by both teams.
  • Respect Opponents: Show respect for all participants.
  • Condemn Violence: Oppose all forms of violence.
  • Avoid Verbal Abuse: Do not verbally abuse players or referees.
  • Encourage Fair Play: Support adherence to the Laws of the Game.
  • Promote Enjoyment: Enhance the event's enjoyment for everyone.
  • Be Proud: Take pride in your club and the Game of Rugby.
  • Support Development: Encourage skill improvement and sportsmanship.
  • Set a Good Example: Avoid ridiculing or shouting at young players.
  • Emphasize Effort Over Winning: Value honest effort as much as winning.
  • Encourage Willing Participation: Do not force children to play; encourage them when ready.
  • Oppose Abuse: Support efforts to eliminate abuse.
  • Respect Referees and Coaches: Value the roles of volunteers and avoid questioning their judgment.
  • Appreciate Team Sports: Recognize the importance of team sports.
  • Contribute Positively: Be proud of your contributions to the Game of Rugby.

  • Act Responsibly: Care for young players as you would your own children.
  • Lead by Example: Earn respect by setting a positive example.
  • Praise Generously: Give praise when it is deserved.
  • Avoid Ridicule: Never ridicule or shout at players for mistakes or losses.
  • Teach Fair Play: Emphasize the importance of following the Laws of the Game.
  • Be Reasonable: Balance demands on players’ time, energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Prioritize Fun: Focus on fun and skill learning over competition.
  • Respect Opponents and Officials: Foster respect for opponents, referees, and other coaches.
  • Insist on Fair Play: Do not tolerate foul play, fighting, or foul language; address issues immediately.
  • Set Realistic Goals: Set appropriate goals and avoid pushing young players into adult-like competitions.
  • Create a Safe Environment: Ensure a safe and enjoyable training and playing environment.
  • Avoid Overload: Do not overwhelm players with too much information.
  • Stay Informed: Keep up with sound coaching principles and child development.
  • Respect Officials: Do not criticize referees or touch judges publicly; discuss issues privately post-match.
  • Ensure Proper Equipment: Provide appropriate equipment and facilities.
  • Uphold the Ethos: Maintain the ethos of the game and the IRFU.
  • Attend Courses: Participate in coaching courses.
  • Support Ethics: Adhere to the Code of Ethics and children’s sports policies.
